01 Products & quality

What products do you sell?

We supply wood pellets, kiln-dried firewood, charcoal and wood briquettes (heat logs), plus accessories such as kindling and firelighters. We sell to households at retail quantities and to trade and wholesale customers by the pallet and by the tonne, across the UK and Europe.

What are wood pellets and what are they used for?

Wood pellets are a compressed solid fuel made from clean, dried wood residues such as sawdust and shavings, formed under pressure without glues or additives. They burn cleanly and efficiently with very low ash, and are used in pellet stoves, biomass boilers and pellet-fired pizza ovens.

Are your wood pellets ENplus A1 certified? What does that mean?

Yes. ENplus A1 is the leading international quality standard for wood pellets. It sets strict limits on moisture, ash content, durability and dimensions, which means consistent, high-calorific pellets that burn efficiently and are kind to your boiler or stove. A1 is the highest domestic grade.

What's the difference between softwood and hardwood pellets?

Both are made by compressing dried wood. Softwood pellets are the most common and often slightly higher in energy per kilo; hardwood pellets can produce a little more ash. Once wood is pelletised the practical difference is small, and a quality ENplus A1 pellet performs reliably whichever timber it started as.

What is kiln-dried firewood, and why does it matter?

Kiln-dried logs are dried in a controlled kiln to bring their moisture content below 20%. Dry wood lights more easily, burns hotter and cleaner, produces far less smoke and creosote, and gives you more heat per log than wet or "green" wood. It's the difference between a fire that struggles and one that roars.

What moisture content is your firewood? What does "Ready to Burn" mean?

Our kiln-dried logs are dried to below 20% moisture. "Ready to Burn" is the UK certification scheme (administered by Woodsure) confirming that wood fuel sold in smaller volumes meets this standard. In Great Britain, wood sold in volumes under 2m³ must be certified Ready to Burn — larger volumes may be sold with guidance to season the wood down below 20% before burning.

Which wood species do you offer, and how do they differ?

Our kiln-dried hardwoods typically include:

  • Oak — very dense, slow and long-burning, ideal for sustained overnight heat.
  • Ash — a reliable all-rounder with a clean, steady, hot burn.
  • Birch — lights quickly with a bright flame and pleasant aroma, great for getting a fire going.

Many customers choose a mix: birch to light, oak or ash to keep it going.

What are briquettes / heat logs, and how do they compare to logs?

Briquettes (also called heat logs) are made from compressed dried sawdust with no binders. They're very dense and low in moisture, so they burn hot for a long time with minimal ash and smoke, and they stack and store neatly. They work well in stoves, and can be split by hand for smaller appliances or pizza ovens.

What charcoal do you sell — lumpwood or briquettes?

We offer both. Lumpwood charcoal lights quickly and burns hot, making it ideal for searing and shorter grilling sessions with a natural flavour. Charcoal briquettes are uniform in size and give a longer, steadier, more consistent heat — better for low-and-slow cooking. Both are suited to restaurant and retail use as well as home barbecuing.

Are your products sustainably sourced?

Yes. Our wood fuels are made from sustainably managed timber and mill residues. Where applicable, products carry recognised certifications such as FSC or PEFC for responsible sourcing, and ENplus or Ready to Burn for quality. If you need specific certification for a particular product, please ask and we'll confirm what applies.

02 Choosing the right fuel

Which fuel is best for a wood-burning stove?

For a standard wood-burning or multi-fuel stove, kiln-dried logs and wood briquettes are the natural choice. Use birch or kindling to light, then oak or ash logs, or briquettes, for lasting heat. Note that ordinary wood pellets are not for open fires or standard stoves — they need a dedicated pellet appliance.

Can I burn wood pellets in any stove?

No. Wood pellets are designed for pellet stoves and biomass boilers with automatic feed systems, and for pellet-fired pizza ovens. They should not be used in ordinary wood-burning or multi-fuel stoves or on open fires. If you're unsure what your appliance takes, check its manual or ask us before ordering.

What can I burn in a smoke control area?

Much of the UK is designated as a smoke control area. In these zones you may only burn authorised smokeless fuels, or burn dry wood (below 20% moisture) in a DEFRA-exempt appliance. Our Ready to Burn kiln-dried logs are suitable for use in exempt appliances. Always check that your specific stove is DEFRA-exempt for your area.

What's best for a pizza oven or BBQ?

For wood-fired pizza ovens, kiln-dried hardwood (especially birch or ash) and some briquettes give quick, clean, high heat. For barbecuing, lumpwood charcoal is great for fast, hot grilling, while charcoal briquettes suit longer, steadier cooking. Avoid resinous softwood logs for cooking, as they can taint food.

How much fuel will I need?

It depends on your appliance, how often you burn, and the season. As rough guidance, a regular winter stove user might get through a crate or bulk bag of logs every few weeks. Pellet and biomass users are best sizing by tonnes per heating season. Product pages show pack sizes and coverage, and our team can help you estimate — just get in touch.

Can I change or cancel my order?

If your order hasn't been dispatched yet, contact us as soon as possible and we'll do our best to amend or cancel it. If you're a consumer, you also have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of receiving goods — see our Terms & Conditions and returns section below for details and any exceptions.

Do you offer discounts for larger orders?

Yes — many of our products carry better per-unit pricing as quantities increase, for example on multiple pallets, and we offer dedicated trade and wholesale pricing by the tonne. Check product pages for volume pricing, or contact us for a bulk quote.

Is there a minimum order?

Retail orders can be as small as a single bag, net or box. Wholesale and bulk pricing applies from larger quantities upward. If you're ordering for a business or for resale, get in touch and we'll advise on the best option for your needs.

04 Delivery

Where do you deliver?

We deliver across mainland Great Britain and, by arrangement, to Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands and Islands, the Isle of Man, and destinations across the European Union. Some remote or offshore postcodes carry a surcharge or longer lead time, confirmed at checkout.

How much does delivery cost?

Delivery is calculated by order size and destination and shown before you confirm. Pallet, crate and bulk orders are typically delivered free to UK mainland addresses, while small parcel orders carry a small charge or are free over a set value. Remote and European destinations are quoted separately. See our Delivery Information page for full rates.

How long does delivery take?

Standard mainland UK delivery is usually 2–5 working days from dispatch, with next-day and nominated-day options on eligible products and postcodes. Bulk and wholesale deliveries are arranged directly with you. Times may be longer in peak season or bad weather.

How is my order delivered, and what access do you need?

Pallets and crates are delivered kerbside by a pallet-network courier or tail-lift lorry. The delivery point needs firm, level hard standing (tarmac, concrete or block paving) — the pallet trolley can't be used on grass, gravel or slopes. Please ensure suitable access for a large vehicle and that someone aged 18+ can receive the delivery. Full access guidance is on our Delivery Information page.

Do you deliver to Europe?

Yes, we deliver across the EU via freight partners, with cost and timescale quoted by destination. Orders shipped from the UK to the EU may be subject to import duties, taxes and customs charges in the destination country, payable by the recipient. See the delivery page for details.

05 Wholesale & trade

Do you supply trade and wholesale customers?

Yes. We supply retailers, hospitality businesses, farm shops, installers and other trade customers with wood pellets, firewood, charcoal and briquettes — from single pallets up to full loads. Contact our trade team to discuss your requirements and set up pricing.

Can I order by the tonne?

Yes. We supply bulk quantities from around a tonne up to full artic and container loads, in bags on pallets or as loose / bulk-blown loads where suitable. Bulk orders are priced individually with delivery included in your quote.

How is VAT applied — 5% or 20%?

Solid fuel supplied for domestic use is charged at the reduced rate of VAT (currently 5%). Fuel bought for resale, or for qualifying commercial use, is charged at the standard rate (currently 20%). The correct rate is applied at checkout. If you're buying for resale, please select the trade option or let us know.

How do I get a wholesale quote?

Contact us with the product, quantity and delivery postcode you need, and we'll send a delivered price. For to-order or container loads, lead times are typically a little longer than for stock items — we'll confirm timing with your quote.

Do you offer bulk-blown pellet delivery?

For biomass boilers and pellet stores, we can supply certain pellet products blown directly into your silo via hose, in selected areas and by arrangement. Contact us with your location and store details to check availability.

Do your products come with BSL or certification for grant schemes?

Where required, our qualifying biomass pellets can be supplied with the certification needed for commercial biomass use, and we can confirm Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) status on request. Note that the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive has closed to new applicants and has been succeeded by other schemes such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme — check current government guidance for what applies to you.

06 Storage & handling

How should I store wood pellets?

Keep pellets completely dry. They absorb moisture readily, and once damp they swell and crumble and won't feed or burn properly. Store bagged pellets indoors or under cover in a dry, ventilated space, off the floor, and keep bags sealed until use. The plastic pallet wrap is for transit only, not long-term outdoor storage.

How should I store firewood and logs?

Store logs off the ground with good airflow around them — a raised log store, pallet or rack is ideal. Cover the top to keep rain off, but leave the sides open so air can circulate and keep the wood dry. Avoid stacking tight against a wall or sitting logs on grass, which traps damp.

How long do pellets and logs keep in storage?

Kept dry, kiln-dried logs and briquettes store well for a long time and are best used within a year or two for peak performance. Wood pellets also keep well when stored bone-dry and sealed, but are sensitive to any moisture, so buy what you can store properly and keep them dry.

Can I store fuel outside?

Logs and briquettes can be stored outside in a proper log store that keeps rain off the top while allowing air to flow. Pellets are best kept indoors or fully weatherproofed, as they must stay completely dry. If storing a pallet outdoors short-term, keep it covered and raised, and move it under cover as soon as you can.

07 Burning & efficiency

How do I get the best heat from my fire?

Burn dry fuel (below 20% moisture), start with plenty of air to establish a hot fire, then adjust the air controls to maintain a steady burn rather than smothering it. Refuel little and often onto a good bed of embers, and keep your appliance and flue clean. Dry logs, briquettes and quality pellets all reward good air management.

Why is my fire smoking a lot?

Heavy smoke usually means wet wood, too little air, or a cold flue. Make sure you're burning dry, Ready to Burn fuel, open the air controls when lighting and refuelling, and warm the flue to get a good draught going. If smoking persists with dry fuel, have your appliance and chimney checked.

How do I light a fire efficiently?

The top-down method works well: place larger logs at the bottom, smaller ones above, then kindling and a firelighter on top. Light the top and let the fire burn downward — it lights cleanly with less smoke. Give it plenty of air until it's well established before easing the controls back.

Do pellets and briquettes produce much ash?

Very little compared with ordinary logs. Quality ENplus A1 pellets and compressed briquettes are low in ash because they're made from clean, dry wood, which means less frequent cleaning and emptying. You'll still get some ash — a thin bed of it actually helps insulate the fire.

Are wood fuels environmentally friendly?

Wood is a renewable, low-carbon fuel when it's sustainably sourced, since the carbon released in burning is part of the natural growth cycle and new trees are planted to replace those harvested. Burning dry, certified fuel in an efficient, modern appliance also greatly reduces smoke and particulates compared with wet wood.

08 Returns & support

What is your returns and cancellation policy?

If you're a consumer, you can cancel within 14 days of receiving your goods and return them (in resaleable condition) within 14 days of telling us, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. Some exceptions apply, for example to goods that have been unsealed or mixed. Full details are in our Terms & Conditions.

What if my order arrives damaged or incomplete?

Please check your delivery on arrival, note any visible damage before signing, and contact us within a few working days with your order number and photographs. We'll arrange a repair, replacement or refund as appropriate. This doesn't affect your statutory rights.

Do you offer refunds?

Yes. Where you exercise your cancellation right or receive faulty, incorrect or misdescribed goods, we'll refund you in line with our Terms and consumer law. Refunds for cancelled orders are normally made within 14 days of receiving the goods back or evidence of their return.
